“Ever since Happiness heard your name, it has been running through the streets trying to find you.”
- Hafez, 14th century poet
Sometimes, life sucks.
Whether it’s the sharp edge of trauma, the heavy fog of depression, or the relentless shriek of anxiety, there are times when “happiness” feels more like a marketing slogan than a reality. And if you’re here, then this is probably one of those times.
So let’s change things.
My approach is based on warmth, open-mindedness, and the idea that your circumstances and needs are unique - meaning your experience in therapy should be personalized to you. We can be armchair archeologists unearthing the mysteries of your past, tactical engineers applying research-backed techniques for real-world change, or just two humans trying to figure out what the deal is with your boss/mother/ex.
What brings you in?
I’m keen to help with whatever challenges you’re facing. My specialties include:
Trauma and PTSD: We’ll work towards retraining your brain to stop reacting to every “now” like it’s a “then” so that you can enjoy the present moment. Read more.
Anxiety: We’ll focus on firing your inner security guard who treats every minor stressor like a SWAT team standoff so that you can respond effectively and then just… chill. Read more.
Depression: We’ll prioritize helping you escape the heavy gravity of persistent gloom so that you can get off the couch and find your stride again. Read more.
Chronic illness and pain: We’ll concentrate on recasting your chronic condition from “main character” to “background extra” so that you remember your diagnosis is a detail in your life story, not the entire plot. Read more.
Couples therapy: We’ll prioritize breaking the negative cycles so that you two can rediscover why you actually liked each other to begin with. Read more.
Philosophy and practice
I use a mix of science and heart to help you move forward. The modalities that we’ll draw from include:
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR): Reprocess trauma with “physio for your brain.” Read more.
Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT): Change your life by changing your thoughts. Read more.
Existential therapy: Explore who you are and what you want when the old answers just aren’t right anymore. Read more.
Deep dives into your past, practical tools for the present, or just making sense of the mess of it all - whatever your goal, I’m excited for us to get started. I’m based in downtown Toronto and offer virtual sessions (as either video chats or audio only wherein we pretend that it’s the ‘90s and use our phones as actual phones). You can read more about me here.
